Euphorbia
Millii – Apachee Series
This plant species originated in Madagascar and
has been selectively bred for centuries. These selections have come
out of Thailand, and were chosen for the size of their flowers.
These hybrids are an improvement on the commonly known “Crown
of thorns”.
Currently we are doing a lovely bold red (Squaw),
a mottled pink/red (Running Bear), a cream with apricot blotches
(Desert Morning).
Darwin Plant Wholesaler’s are marketing these
plants as the Euphorbia Millii Apachee Series.
My own personal experience has shown that when
these plants are in bloom, every person visiting will comment on
them and ask “Where did you get it” or “Where
can I get one from?”
They are an intriguing plant with attractive foliage
coming off grey canes, with thorns that make rose thorns look insignificant.
They produce profuse flowering in winter with spot flowering throughout
the year.
The plants in these photos have been grown from cuttings. Micropropagation
has been proven to produce a more compact multi leaded plant.
They are Euphorbiaceous the same as poinsettias,
the flowers are actually quite insignificant but the colourful bracts
around them are spectacular, and this colouring changes as they
mature.
We are working with Darwin Plant Wholesaler’s
to have an ongoing release of new colours as they become available,
we are trialling more colours and a couple with emerald green leaves
with red margins.
